Broken

It was a good little gadget untill the wire broke. I hardly used it and never miss treated it. Would have expected it to last longer than a few months. In my opinion they should put a stronger wire on it and maybe it would last abit longer.

Works well straight out of the box

I've just installed this router as an upgrade from a Belkin Cable/DSL Gateway Router F5D6231-4 connected to cable Virgin Media thatb I've used for several years. I wanted to extend signal coverage to some of the further away rooms in the house as well as the garden, and make use of the faster wireless network speed (max 300 mbs up from 11 mbs). Following the quick setup up guide, and with the setup utility, it worked first time, straight out of the box, and has extended coverage just like I needed. The wireless LAN speed is defintely quicker, although I haven't dome any serious testing yet. One of the reasons I chose Belkin is because of their lifetime support. Unlike other reviewers here, whenever I've needed to use the support line with other products, they have always solved the problem for me. I'd recommend this router, and Belkin wireless adaptors always work well too.

PLEASE Don't Buy This Router!!

I bought this router only a year and a half ago, but already I am having to buy a new one. Only a month or 2 after buying it, I noticed that it got hot VERY quickly, and within half a year, I was having to turn it off overnight once a week because it got too hot to function any more. Last week, it finally gave up the ghost, for the wireless side of things at least. I assume that it fried its circuit board because the thing gets roasting hot!! At least it still works over LAN (Always look on the bright side!)

Now going to invest in a Netgear router because I cant be bothered with Belkin anymore, all I've had is problems with this one!

Great card

I bought this card as a test to see how the card performed before I upgrade my whole home network to gigabit (testing it at the lower speeds).
It was very easy to configure with my Windows 2000 Server machine which also dual boots with Ubuntu linux. The disk comes with the source code to create a linux driver but I managed to find out the name of the driver when I heard that it was already included in the Ubuntu distribution.
After configuration, it works great with both Windows 2000 Server and Ubuntu and has already improved network performance even before upgrading the rest of the network and cables to gigabit.
I have had problems with some other Belkin products but am very impressed with this one. Especially as Belkin include the source for the linux drivers.

does the job perfectly

Received the item yesterday, plugged it into XP desktop and XP laptop, didn't load software and it works perfectly using the button on the unit.

Does not work with Intel based Macs (e.g. MacBook Pro)

This product does not work with Intel based Macs - I only found out when I it didn't work with my MacBook Pro and went to the Belkin Website. There is a small note next to the driver download for the product that said so. Be warned. Seems to work OK with XP PCs though.

useless

Absolute rubbish. Sort of works occasionally but doesnt queue print jobs. Causes various error messages in WIndows. Ive upgraded the firmware but its still a waste of money.
Belkin - nuff said. SHould have learnt my lesson after all the ADSL routers I bought that failed early or just didnt work. I'll not be buying any more of their cr*p again

Poor range and utility software not working on XP

Purchased, new, Belkin N1 N-draft router and this Belkin N1 desktop card. We found two problems:
1) Although the drivers work, the utility software provided by Belkin to view wireless connections and adjust settings would not work on XP or Vista. It would show no wireless in range, so you had to use generic Windows wireless.
2) Signal strength received was the same as a G rated inbuilt wireless laptop. So range is poor. Speed was good though, we got 160Mbs.

works but not the best

im a student and my friend and i bought the same adapter about a year ago so that both our pcs could connect to the internet. Have been having the same problems as ultramum (see below!). works intermittently - sometimes it stays on for a few days but never longer. some days it dies completely and we just have to wait for it to be detected and start working again. im pretty sure that compatibility with the router (netgear) is not the main problem. struggling to find adequate drivers. as the title of the posting says...

It works pefectly - straight out of the box

Before I purchased this item I read some of the other reviews. I was a little concerned by some of them. However, I was confident that I would be able to get it working, so I purchased.

One other reviewer pointed out that if you make sure the USB keyboard and mouse work independently with both PC's first, you will have no problem. Unusually for me, I decided to read the instructions before setting it up.

I DID take the step of making sure the Keyboard and Mouse worked with both PC's first (as in the instructions) and everything worked fine first time.

I installed the software but soon discovered that this isn't necessary. The KVM switch does have a hot key 'soft-switch' included, which is to press the 'Scroll Lock' key 4 times.

I'm now happily working with 2 PC's at the same time and I'm delighted with the KVM switch and think it is excellent value for money/

VPN information

Although I did not buy this product from Amazon I wanted to share information in particular regarding this router and the usage of VPN. First of all, had no problems to setup the modem router and all went fine. With regards to connect to my company VPN is where I had some problems, in particular with regards to company drive mapping scripts (if you require those). After investigating and testing I found the problem that might be relevant even for other people with different routers. Previous Belkin routers had the MTU value going up to a max of 1500. E.g. the F5D7633 had the default MTU set to 1492. This router however has the MTU value set to 1454 and can only go to 1492. Although Belkin states in the router management view that the MTU should only be changed if the ISP indicates so, most ISP's don't state anything. Hence try to modify this value especially for VPN connections upwards. Mine works like a charm with MTU = 1492. Try as well websites such as speednet.test to check the impact on your down and upload speeds.

FYI amazon is the cheapest witht his router. I needed one right here right now and bought one in a local shop costed 100 pounds, but after a bit of negotiation came down to 85... which is still 20 more than amazon.

Easy & Excellent

I bought this for my Dell Dimension 4440 PC (yes its quite old) which uses Windows XP. I wanted to connect it to my new modem/router and am not experienced in opening up computers. I found the whole expereince a delight. It was very easy and the network card worked immediately and without any problems whatsoever. With all thse things, it only takes one link in the chain to be faulty and nothing works, but in my case everything worked very smoothly and I'm very pleased with this item. The intrsuctions were clear and it all took about 30mins from start to finish.

It does not work with Vista

The card arrived and included a Cable (anoying as I had purchased one as well as it did not say it had one. But when it was connected to the PC it had a"Agere OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controler" the system can not find the file.

I contacted Belkin after finding the Card is not supported on the web site and they suggested a clean instal of Vista might solve the problem (not really practicle after 1 year of use) so avoid this card if you have Vista (note it does not mention Vista on supported systems so I suspect that it will never be covered)

Card limits

I have owned one of these for a number of years and the biggest card in it to date has been a 1gb compact flash.I have now upgraded my camera and have been trying to get it to read a 2gb sandisk extreme 3 SD tonight to no avail,thought it must be the extreme 3 bit causing the trouble as it has more contacts on it but after reading the reviews on here i realise its the size of card causing the problem! I have been happy with the reader up until now though,it makes no difference if you upgrade the driver.This is an odd problem because the USB ports work fine with a corsair GT 4 gb flash drive.
